Green Lantern: Secret Origin was published by DC Comics in 2008 which
collects Green Lantern (vol.4)
#29-35. It was written by Geoff Johns with penciling done by Ivan Reis. Secret Origin retells the story of how
Hal Jordan became Earth’s first Green Lantern Corps. member. The story features
Abin Sur, Sinestro, and a villain called Atrocitus. This story not only serves
as an origin story for Hal Jordan it also serves as a prelude to Blackest Night.
If you’re a new fan of the Green Lantern,
then Secret Origin is the perfect
book to introduce you to the Green Lantern mythos. Any questions you have about
the Green Lanterns will be answered with this book. If you’re a more seasoned
fan, this book is still good because it is still incredibly entertaining with
great dialogue and great action.
Geoff Johns does a great job of not only
showing who Hal Jordan is as a character but he is also able to introduce the
various concepts of the Green Lantern mythos to the reader in an easily
digestible way. Ivan Reis’s penciling is great as well and both he and Johns
know what makes these characters so special.
I would highly recommend Green Lantern: Secret Origin to any
comic book fan and any new fan that is interested in the Green Lantern. This
book is a simple yet effective way of teaching new readers about the Green
Lantern mythos while also planting the seeds to future plot points.
